Destellos is a dance duet directed by dancer, choreographer and contemporary dance author Diego Vega Solorza, set to music by composer Darío Acuña, inspired by Casa Gilardi, the latest creation of the mexican architect and engineer Luis Barragán.
The dance duet has a duration of 40 minutes and is designed for theater, gallery or small space. The work as a whole is an exercise on the visual, emotional and sensorial experience of the architectural space (Casa Gilardi) and the correlation of music and dance with architecture.
Throughout the work, the bodies and their outline construct a non-linear narrative in the space that is inhabited, emphasizing the characteristics perceived in the work of Barragán and the Gilardi house, thus, the dance is thought as a kind of manifestation of the body and its understanding or relationship with color and lighting from the physical and emotional perspective.
Musically speaking, Destellos is divided into 4 movements:
1. Blue
2. Red
3. Blue and Red
4. Destellos
The piano parts from each movement are performed live and several other audio processes are made live depending on the space where it’s being performed.
The piece was commissioned by the “Festival Querétaro Experimental” in 2022 and premiered at the Teatro de la Ciudad de Querétaro in the same year.
